There are good news for anyone who has to do with building models and solving optimization problems – Microsoft Solver for Mac his here! The software tool wasn’t part of the new Office:mac 2008 until now, but Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and Pivot Charts are still lacking. Solver is a powerful tool to optimize recourse allocations and solve equations. It can be used e.g. in finance & investment, manufacturing, distribution & network problems. So it’s mostly the only software tool available on the computer to face such tasks because it is FREE.
The Mac software and a tutorial can be downloaded here for free. But VBA can be expected not until the next Microsoft Office:mac update, maybe next year. There are no news about the missing Pivot Chart functionality - sorry, guys.
