Today Apple is changing it’s .mac service to the mobileme.com or me.com service. I’m curious about the new features. But tomorrow is the iPhone 3G launch in Austria and other countries. Since 2 weeks you can pre-order units from the ONE homepage and since Thuesday it’s possible to order white iPhones 3G from a T-Mobile Austria micro-site.
According to the websites every pre-iPhone 3G owner must face different lifetime-costs and tarif-packages. Here is a short outline (presuming that 24 months agreement will start in in August 2008):
- ONE Plaudertasche iPhone 8 or 16 GB: 1.010 or 1.090 EUR
(minus 40 EUR webshop bonus, 1.000 min. to all networks, 100 SMS, 3 GB data transfer volume) - T-Mobile Classic iPhone 8 or 16 GB: 1.085 or 1.165 EUR
(1.000 min. to all networks, 3 GB data transfer volume) - T-Mobile Classic iPhone 8 or 16 GB (pre-order, 1st 10.000 units): 989 or 1.069 EUR
- T-Mobile Supreme iPhone 8 or 16 GB: 1.419 or 1.499 EUR
(1.000 min. to all networks, 1.000 min. to T-Mobile and landline, 1.000 SMS, 3 GB data transfer volume) - T-Mobile Supreme iPhone 8 or 16 GB (pre-order, 1st 10.000 units): 1.179 or 1.259 EUR
The T-Mobile packages are a little bit confusing and not really cheap. It depends how fast you pre-order a unit (only white units are available) to gain a saving of 100 to 240 EUR. ONE is offering one tarif package which is cheaper through 100 included SMS per month.
So it depends if you are a little or a big chatterbox, which tarif you should choose. Every potential iPhone 3G owner must be aware of additional costs of voice and data roaming and going beyond the included minutes and GB’s! However you decide I would recommend the 16 GB iPhone model, because the 8 GB model memory could be too small.
